What is a Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation?

Most patients have areas of excess fat where they desire sculpting. These pockets of fat can be removed through VASER liposuction and then repurposed as a means of enhancing the breasts. Once the fat is extracted from a donor region, typically the stomach, flanks, or hips, it is purified and sterilized before being injected into the chest region. A fat transfer breast augmentation, while less invasive than implant surgery, requires the artistry, expertise, and skill of a trained surgeon such as Dr. Barker to ensure elegant, symmetrical results. Because not all of the transferred fat will survive, Dr. Barker will inject more than is needed initially to compensate.

How is the Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Performed?

Dr. Barker will create small, inconspicuous incisions in the donor region, extracting excess fat via VASER liposuction. Treatment is performed in our state-of-the-art in-office surgical suite while you are under local anesthesia. This avoids the need for general anesthesia and decreases the risks of the procedure overall.  A fat transfer breast augmentation will provide patients with body sculpting benefits in the donor areas, accomplishing two contouring goals in a single procedure. After the fat cells are optimized through purification, Dr. Barker will strategically inject the fat into the breasts, creating balanced, symmetrical results. The entire process takes around two hours to complete.

Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Recovery

Because transferred fat takes time to integrate into the recipient region and reestablish its blood supply, full recovery often takes up to six weeks. Patients will only experience discomfort for a few days, however. They will be fitted with compression garments that help minimize swelling and keep the newly sculpted areas intact. Patients should avoid placing any pressure on the breasts for several weeks. This means avoiding bras and sleeping only on one’s back. Most patients can resume their jobs within 3-5 days, provided that their work does not require strenuous activity. Dr. Barker will provide a detailed aftercare plan with clear instructions for each patient. He prides himself on always being available to answer questions and concerns, supporting a stress-free healing process.
